Discernment Committee
Statement of Confidentiality
September 9, 2007
|
Confidentiality is important in establishing a trusting relationship.
|
1. It is understood that things shared in the Parish Discernment Process are held in
confidence and will not be shared outside the group.
2. No information whatever about any individual candidate will be divulged, nor
anything about the committee’s impression of the candidate, nor as to whether any
decision on the candidacy has been made, excepting only that we are free to say
whether a particular name has been submitted or not.
3. We are free to say how many total names have been submitted to the committee as
of any time and the number the committee is currently considering.
4. As to criteria the committee is using to evaluate candidates, they consist of those
set forth in the Parish Profile. In addition, neither gender nor race nor ethnic
background will be a factor, nor will the committee disclose the gender, race,
ethnic background, or other identifying information of candidates being
considered. Any candidate being considered must, of course, be a priest in good
standing in the Episcopal Church.
5. If asked whether the Interim Rector is or may be a candidate, the answer must be
regretfully no that would be not be permissible under the terms governing his/her
tenure at Calvary Church.
6. To all such questions as “How is the process coming?” the committee will answer
that we are at a particular stage in the discernment process (e.g., receiving
application, evaluating resumes, interviewing, visiting, talking to references, etc.).
7. To such question as “When do you expect to call a Rector?” the committee will
reply that the investigation of potential Rectors will take several months, and that
the total time varies from ten to eighteen months. (If an Interim Rector is
present…)"We see the parish as richly blessed in the leadership of our splendid
Interim Rector." In that circumstance, the committee does not feel the need to
rush the process unduly, and intends to do its job with adequate deliberation.
8. To such question as “Are you looking for candidates from outside the Diocese?”
the committee will be free to disclose the geographical range of the search for
candidates.
9. Each committee member is responsible for safeguarding and then ultimately
destroying his/her set of dossier material and any notes made in the course of the
committee's work.
